Uke-e-stra is a dynamic ukulele ensemble for students aged 7 to 12 who are ready to build on their foundational skills in a collaborative and performance-focused setting. The group welcomes beginner, intermediate, and advanced players who can play basic chords independently and are developing confidence with rhythm and coordination.
Rehearsals explore a wide mix of pop, folk, and contemporary repertoire. Students refine strumming techniques, chord transitions, and ensemble awareness while learning to play musically with others. Music-reading is encouraged but not required, allowing students to progress through practical engagement and listening.
Uke-e-stra provides regular performance opportunities, including invitations to Conservatorium concerts and the Student Awards Concerts in November. These experiences help students build stage confidence, musical responsibility, and a sense of achievement.
The ensemble also fosters positive social development. Students rehearse in a supportive environment that values teamwork, respect, and shared creativity.
Uke-e-stra serves as the natural continuation of Junior Ukulele, supporting students as they grow into confident ensemble musicians while maintaining the enjoyment and accessibility of group music-making.
Uke-e-stra rehearses on Mondays from 5–5:30 pm at the Conservatorium
Rehearsals are directed by Brookie Gillett
Intakes for new ensemble members are generally in the first two weeks of each school term. Contact us for more information or complete an enrolment form.
