Poco a Poco Strings is a preparatory string ensemble for developing violin, viola, cello, and double bass students who are beginning to build independence on their instrument. The ensemble supports young musicians who can read open-string notation and play independently, with basic finger placement skills encouraged.
Rehearsals focus on strengthening essential musical foundations, including note-reading, intonation, rhythm, dynamics, and following a conductor. Students develop ensemble skills such as listening across parts, blending, and working collaboratively within a section. Repertoire is carefully selected to be accessible and supportive of early technical development, allowing students to experience success while continuing to extend their musical understanding.
Poco a Poco Strings provides an important stepping stone towards participation in the Tamworth Con Community Orchestra. Through regular ensemble experience, students gain confidence, independence, and a stronger understanding of orchestral playing.
The ensemble also offers valuable social opportunities. Students rehearse alongside peers with shared interests, fostering teamwork, motivation, and enjoyment through collective music-making.
Poco a Poco Strings offers a purposeful and encouraging pathway for young string players to grow “little by little” into confident ensemble musicians.
Poco a Poco Strings rehearses on Wednesdays from 3:45–4:45 pm at the Conservatorium
Rehearsals are directed by Samara Power
