Junior Keyboard

First steps at the keyboard

Junior Keyboard is an introductory music program for children aged 5 to 8 who are beginning their journey on the keyboard. Designed for absolute beginners and students with minimal experience, the program provides a supportive and engaging environment where foundational skills are developed through structured, age-appropriate learning.

Rehearsals focus on basic keyboard technique, simple melodies, rhythm, coordination, and early music-reading skills. Notation is taught from scratch, allowing students to build confidence as they learn how music is written and played. Lessons are instrumental in focus, with an emphasis on developing independence at the keyboard and understanding how to practise effectively.

Junior Keyboard also supports important learning behaviours. Students are encouraged to be respectful of others, stay focused, and care for their equipment responsibly. Small class sizes (maximum five students) ensure individual attention and a positive learning environment.

The program is purely developmental and does not have a formal performance outcome, although students may be invited to participate in studio concerts when appropriate. Junior Keyboard provides a cost-effective way for families to explore their child’s interest in piano before transitioning into private lessons.

This program offers a strong foundation for future musical study while fostering enjoyment, confidence, and curiosity at the keyboard.
