Strings

Shape sound. Tell stories. Play together.

The string family forms the expressive core of orchestral and chamber music, offering rich tonal colour and a wide range of musical roles. At the Tamworth Regional Conservatorium of Music, students can learn violin, viola, cello, or double bass through a structured and supportive program designed for beginners through to advanced players.

Lessons focus on posture, bowing technique, left-hand development, tone production, and musical interpretation, alongside music reading and rhythmic accuracy. Students explore repertoire from classical and chamber traditions, as well as film, folk, and contemporary styles, developing versatility and stylistic awareness.

String instruments are well suited to young beginners, with fractional-sized instruments enabling children to start comfortably. Adult beginners are also warmly welcomed. Individual tuition is complemented by ensemble opportunities, allowing students to experience the collaborative nature of string playing and build ensemble skills from an early stage.

Whether learning for enjoyment, school performance, ensemble participation, or advanced study, the string program provides a clear and nurturing pathway for musical growth.
