Drum kit sits at the rhythmic heart of contemporary music. At the Tamworth Regional Conservatorium of Music, our Drums & Percussion program places primary focus on drum kit performance, while also introducing students to essential percussion skills that support well-rounded rhythmic development. Students learn fundamental techniques including grip, posture, coordination, timing, groove, and stylistic awareness, progressing from basic beats and fills to more advanced patterns, independence, and musical interpretation.

Lessons explore a wide range of styles such as rock, pop, jazz, funk, blues, and contemporary commercial music, with opportunities to extend into orchestral percussion where appropriate. Students develop strong time feel, listening skills, and musical discipline, supported by tutors with extensive performance and teaching experience. The program is suitable for beginners through to advanced players, and lessons are tailored to individual goals—whether learning for enjoyment, playing in bands, or pursuing more formal study.

Drum students have access to well-equipped studios with acoustic and electronic drum kits and selected percussion instruments, ensuring a high-quality learning environment from the first lesson.
