AMEB Exams

The AMEB program at the Con offers face-to-face and video exam options for instrumental and vocal students, supporting students' skill development and confidence.

The Australian Music Examinations Board (AMEB) offers nationally recognised exams for instrumental and vocal students. These exams provide clear goals, structured progression, and performance experience that builds confidence and technical skill. Whether your child is preparing for a future in music or learning for personal enjoyment, AMEB exams are a valuable way to mark their progress.

Candidates may choose to sit a face-to-face Comprehensive or Repertoire exam, or submit a Video Repertoire exam if they prefer a recorded performance assessment.

Face-to-face exams

Face-to-face AMEB exams provide students with the opportunity to perform in person for an examiner in a formal, supportive setting. These exams allow for full assessment of technical work, musicianship skills, and performance, and are held only once each year at the Conservatorium.

Exam period

Monday, 10 to Friday, 14 August

How to enrol

Families must complete the online enrolment form, then contact the Conservatorium Office to finalise payment. Enrolments close at 9 am on Monday, 26 April (end of Week 1, Term 2). Late entries cannot be accepted.

Important info

The 2026 face-to-face exam session will run from Monday, 10 to Friday, 14 August. Most instruments require piano accompaniment (except Piano, Organ, and Guitar). Accompanists are allocated by the Conservatorium, with rehearsal and performance fees billed separately. Students must use original sheet music (no photocopies).

If a student needs to withdraw, a 50% refund is available until Monday, 1 June. No refunds are available after this date.

Video repertoire exams

Video Repertoire exams allow students to submit a recorded performance instead of attending an in-person examination. These exams assess performance only (no scales, sight-reading, or aural tests) and are available for P Plate to Grade 8 Repertoire and Rockschool exams. Video exams are not available for Certificate of Performance or Diploma levels.

Exam period

Video repertoire exams have a much more flexible exam window. They're open for the majority of the year.
