ABOUT

THE CON

Our vision is to provide quality music education, accessible to all, enriching lives and the community

Our mission is to provide leadership, resources and expertise in order to support lifelong learning and the pursuit of excellence in music education and performance in the Tamworth region

Tamworth Regional Conservatorium of Music is the premier music education facility in the Tamworth region and one of 17 Regional Conservatoriums in New South Wales. We play a central role in strengthening the cultural life of our region – supporting learning, creativity, and performance across generations.

Music education with regional impact

We deliver high-quality instrumental and vocal education to learners from early childhood through to adulthood, welcoming beginners and advanced musicians alike. Our programs are designed to nurture skill, confidence, and artistic identity at every stage, ensuring regional students can access opportunities comparable to those in metropolitan centres.

Affordable access and targeted support

Equity of access is a core value. Through affordable fees, scholarships and bursaries, we work to remove financial barriers so talent and aspiration, not circumstance, determine participation.

Artist-educators and diverse learning pathways

Our teaching staff are artist-educators: experienced musicians who combine professional practice with educational expertise. Students learn through individual lessons, group classes, and ensembles, with pathways that support both recreational and aspirational goals. Performance opportunities are embedded throughout our Musical Programs, with ensembles that encourage musical development.

Community connection and cultural life

The Conservatorium is deeply embedded in community life. We collaborate with local organisations, contribute ensembles to civic events, and present a vibrant calendar of concerts, workshops, and recitals. These activities create shared cultural experiences and meaningful entry points for audiences and learners alike. Learn more about upcoming Events

Workshops and masterclasses

Each year, we host accessible extension learning through workshops and masterclasses led by visiting professionals – giving students practical insight, inspiration, and direct engagement with leaders in their fields.

Our place and our story

Housed in the historic former Dominican Convent, the Conservatorium’s building is a defining visual and cultural landmark. Established in 1984, our history reflects sustained community investment in music education. Learn more about the History of our Building

Governance and stewardship

TRCM operates as a Company Limited by Guarantee, guided by a skills-based Board of Directors who volunteer their expertise. Day-to-day operations are led by the Director, supported by dedicated Teaching Staff and Administration Staff, ensuring transparency, accountability, and educational excellence.
